Can The Vancouver Canucks Win Without Roberto Luongo?

Rangers Hockey Jersey, A collective groan could be heard emanating from the city of Vancouver the other night when superstar goaltender Roberto Luongo went down Rangers Hockey Jersey in his crease after a seeming innocuous play. Vancouver Canuck fans and media alike held their breath waiting for Luongo to reveal the official diagnosis. Everyone in the city was walking on eggshells for two days and when the news finally came, it wasn\'t good.

Luongo has been diagnosed with a groin strain and will be out indefinitely, which could mean as much as six weeks. So are the Canucks doomed or can they muddle through until Luongo can make a recovery?

So far the results Rangers Hockey Jersey have been mixed. Goaltender Curtis Sanford, who would probably have been surprised to start ten games this season has suddenly been thrust into the role of go-to guy. Can he shoulder the load on a team that relies so heavily on their goaltending to win games?

So far the results have been mixed. Sanford acquitted himself well coming in between the pipes when Luongo went down against Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins. He led the Canucks to victory that night against one of best teams in the eastern conference. He followed that up with a win against the defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings on Monday. However, Rangers Hockey Jersey he was brought back down to earth last night, giving up four goals in a loss to divisional rival Calgary Flames.

If the Canucks are going to keep their heads above water without Luongo they will have to play a lot better than they did Thursday night against Calgary. Sanford is a very capable backup, but he is obviously no Luongo, and the Canucks will have to keep chances to a minimum if they expect to win games in Luongo\'s absence.

It will be interesting to see if young phenom Cory Schneider gets a shot with the Canucks during Luongo\'s convalescence. Cory Schneider has been called up from the Manitoba Moose where he has been dominating the AHL as that league\'s top goalie. It Schneider gets a chance to play it will be interesting to see if he can duplicate his success at the NHL level.

No matter who is in between the pipes for Vancouver they cannot be expected to fill Roberto Luongo\'s huge skates. In the early part of the season Luongo has served notice to the league that he is the best goalie in today\'s NHL. If his injury does not sideline him for too long he will be a lock for the Vezina trophy this spring. However, it is a much bigger trophy that Luongo will have his eye on this spring, and his teammates better do their part now so he has a chance to go after it upon his eventual return.
